Fisher Street House

Houston, TX

2012

AIA Houston Design Award, 2013

This 544 sq. ft. house was efficiently designed for a couple who spend much of their time in Austin but required a place in Houston to be near work and family. The small house was placed at the very back of a large lot to allow for future development if desired by a potential new owner.

The livable space of the house expands into the adjacent large carport/porch. South facing windows look out to a large Ipe clad deck and the lawn beyond. The house is wrapped in low maintenance metal siding on the exterior and simple materials are used inside that account for the chemical sensitivity of the owner. The bathroom and closet are clad in salvaged white oak siding that matches the kitchen cabinetry and refers to the cabin like quality of this very modest home.
